Subjects Taught
English 9, English 9 Honors

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language, awarded from BYU-Hawaii, and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction awarded from UNLV.  I have a Secondary Endorsement in English, as well as ELL, and am excited to be teaching in my subject area at PVHS!

My experience in teaching ranges from working in a high school library as a Media Specialist / Computer Lab Technician, to teaching teens how to sail a 90' yawl in a Sea Explorer program in Washington State, to teaching private piano lessons, to tutoring foreign languages in college!  In Nye County, I've worked at the Middle School, teaching 6th and 7th grade, and have enjoyed teaching 9th, 9th Honors, 10th grade and proficiency English classes as part of my formal career experience during the past ten years.

Coming into teaching as a second career means I bring with me a "corporate" world of experience.  After graduating with my Bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language, I found work in a high school library, where I worked for six years.  When I moved to Las Vegas/Pahrump, I found myself working in Sales, Marketing and Escrow for different home builders, and, after returning to school for my Master's Degree in Education, I became a "formal" teacher.  I say "formal" because I was teaching long before that: piano lessons, sailing lessons, foreign language and English tutoring, and so forth.

I also bring to the classroom my experiences growing up as a world traveler while in the military.  My Air Force father was stationed in Germany and England when I was in first through sixth grades, and my parents saw to it that as much of Europe as possible was my classroom.  I'm pleased to say that I value every learning opportunity I can have, and I wish to share that love of learning with my students.  I hope they feel edified after being in my class!
