Nye County School District
Friday, September 06, 2019

A Nye County School District (NCSD) activity bus transporting the Pahrump Valley High School JV football team was involved in an accident last night on Hwy 160. The accident involved a piece of construction equipment in the work zone on Highway 160 at approximately mile marker 26 Clark County (near the Tecopa turnoff).

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to the accident along with Nye County Sheriff’s deputies and dispatchers, Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Services (Fire and ambulance), Clark County Volunteer Fire Department Station 79 (Mountain Springs), Las Vegas Metro Police, AMR Ambulance, Mercy Air, and Nevada Department of Transportation. NCSD Transportation Manager Cameron McRae and staff were also on scene following the accident. Superintendent Norton thanks all responders for their quick action and for putting the safety of our students and staff first and foremost. He would also like to thank the parents and good Samaritans who stopped to assist.

NCSD staff immediately began calling the families whose children were involved in the accident. Four students were medically transported as a result of the accident. We were notified this morning all four students have been medically released with minimal injuries.

Superintendent Dale Norton commends the coaches, student athletes and the driver for their actions immediately following the accident during a time of crisis. Given the circumstances, everything was handled very well.
