Upcoming Events at PVHS!

🎉PVHS Home & Hallways Spotlights!
This series highlights staff members who also have students at PVHS.
This Week: Mrs. Veloz, Aiden and Olivia
Mrs. Veloz writes:
“It is truly is an honor to serve as Principal at Pahrump Valley High School, with the significant roots my husband and his family have here, and now being enveloped in my own childrens' journeys. These years are fleeting but foundational - creating stories and experiences to look back and reminisce on, generationally, forever.
Having already seen one of my children cross this stage as a graduate, I am struck by how quickly time moves. I am currently preparing to watch my son close his own chapter here as a senior, while embracing three more years with my youngest, as she makes her mark on these halls. Being "Principal Mom" gives me a front-row seat to their growth that I don't take for granted. It allows me to see our school culture through two lenses: as a leader dedicated to every student’s success, and as a parent rooted in this community’s legacy.
I am thankful also that while I get to watch my kids grow and thrive, they also get to see me as a leader: problem-solving, engaging in challenges, and finding joy in my work. The joy of purpose and hard work is what I want for them in their lives. Whether I am handing out a diploma or cheering from the sidelines, my goal is the same—to ensure that the "Trojan Family" is a place where all our children, including my own, feel inspired to reach their full potential.”

Quarter 3 is quickly coming to a close. The final day of the quarter is March 6th.
Students and parents, please take time over the next few days to review grades, check for any missing assignments, and ensure that all eligible work is submitted by the deadline. This is an important opportunity to finish strong and make sure grades accurately reflect effort and progress.
If you have questions about missing work or current grades, please reach out to teachers as soon as possible. Let’s make these final days count.
We’re officially in the home stretch!

This Week: Mr. Switzer and Katelyn
“Hello, my name is Mr. Switzer, and I teach Automotive Technologies at Pahrump Valley High School. My Daughter, Katelyn Switzer, is also attending PVHS and is a senior this year. I can't tell you how lucky I am to be here with her as she ends her childhood and begins her adulthood. Katelyn is a bright star in my life, and she has made teaching for me even brighter. I am proud of her accomplishments, and I can't wait to see her graduate and see how far she goes! I love her with all my heart!”

Dear Families,
The safety of our students is our highest priority. We are writing to provide accurate information regarding a safety report investigated by school and district leadership in coordination with the Sheriff’s Department.
Recently, a report was made through SafeVoice regarding a potential threat. We immediately partnered with the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Office of Emergency Management to investigate. Experts have determined that this was a "swatting" attempt, a hoax designed to cause disruption, which has affected numerous schools in Nevada today with identical messages.
The situation is resolved, and our campus is safe for school to proceed normally. There will be an increased law enforcement presence on campus throughout the day to provide extra support and peace of mind for our students and staff.
We are grateful for the systems that allow for quick reporting and for the swift action of our local law enforcement.
Sincerely,
Desiree Veloz, Principal
Robert Williams, Communications Officer
– This alert is being sent to our Pahrump community and guardians via Rooms, websites, and Facebook. PVHS contacts will also receive it via text.

A moment of focus, responsibility, and pride making sure everyone knows what’s ahead before capturing where they are now.
One of those quiet milestones that marks how close the finish line really is.

Today looked a little different at PVHS.
Hail. Snow. Wet shoes and cold hands.
Not something we see often here in the desert.
But the campus felt different too.
Quieter in some ways, lighter in others. There was a genuine energy in the building today, the kind only nature seems to create. You could feel it from both students and staff.
It is a reminder that change is a part of life. Seasons come and go. Nothing stays the same and sometimes that shift brings perspective, gratitude, and a pause we didn’t know we needed.
We are thankful for today, and for the moments that remind us we are all moving through seasons together.

A quick reminder for our PVHS family…tomorrow, December 19, is a half day for students with an 11:08 AM release.
Please remember: no backpacks, and sack lunches will be provided.
We hope everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing winter break!

Hallways, chairs in a circle, and scripts everywhere.
PVHS theater students are reading through their next play this week as they prepare for Regionals in January and a spring performance here on campus.
This is where it all starts!
